1. Product Overview
RVV 2×2.5mm² is a two-core flexible power and control cable with multistrand copper conductors, PVC insulation and a PVC outer sheath, rated 300/500 V. The RVV designation follows Chinese industry practice: R indicates a flexible (soft) conductor construction, the first V indicates PVC insulation and the second V indicates a PVC sheath. With no metallic screening, it is intended for power delivery and hard-wired control connections rather than for sensitive signal circuits.
The 2.5 mm² cross-section places this cable at the upper end of the common RVV range, giving it enough current-carrying capacity for real load duty rather than just signalling.
2. What the Flexible Conductor Delivers
Each core is built from many fine copper wires stranded together rather than a single solid rod. This has three practical consequences on site:
• The cable bends readily inside enclosures, letting installers dress conductors neatly around DIN rails, terminal blocks and cable ducts without fighting the cable.
• Repeated flexing at connection points causes far less work-hardening and conductor fatigue than solid conductors, which matters for equipment that vibrates or is serviced often.
• Termination is straightforward with ferrules or screw terminals, and the stranded bundle clamps securely when the correct ferrule size is used.
3. Conductor Sizing and Circuit Protection
2.5 mm² copper is a widely used size because it pairs naturally with common protective device ratings. The cable should always be protected by an overcurrent device selected against the actual installation method, ambient temperature, grouping with other circuits and the length of run — not against a single tabulated figure. Confirm the applicable current-carrying capacity for the specific installation conditions, and verify that voltage drop on long runs stays within the limit required by the load.
For short appliance leads and equipment interconnections the 2.5 mm² size provides comfortable margin. For longer distribution runs feeding a defined load, calculate voltage drop and, where necessary, move to a larger section or shorten the run.
4. Applications
• Switchboard and control panel internal wiring, and inter-panel connections
• Power feed to motors, pumps, fans, compressors and small machine tools within the rated current
• Security and access control systems: power supply to controllers, readers and door strikes
• Lighting distribution and luminaire connections in commercial fit-outs
• Building services, HVAC equipment and general electrical equipment power connections
• Temporary and relocation-friendly wiring where flexibility is valued
5. When to Choose RVVP Instead
RVV has no screen. Where the same cable must carry power and a control or feedback signal, and where variable speed drives, contactors or motors generate electromagnetic interference nearby, specify the screened RVVP version. The copper braid in RVVP provides a return path for interference and reduces both emitted and coupled noise, which protects signal integrity in the same sheath.
6. Ordering Notes
Confirm conductor material, since copper-covered aluminium is sometimes offered at lower cost but has different current-carrying capacity, termination requirements and corrosion behaviour. Also specify sheath colour where the installation requires visual circuit identification, and state the packing length so site teams receive manageable coils rather than full drums.
