1. Product Overview
This 2 pair 1.0mm² instrumentation cable places two twisted pairs inside one shared shielded construction, giving a single cable run that can serve two independent signal circuits. It sits between the single-pair cable used for one measurement point and the large multi-pair cables used for marshalling dozens of loops — the practical choice for small skids, package units, pumping stations and machine-level control panels where two to four signals travel together.
Two-pair construction is efficient because the cost of installation is largely a function of cable runs, not cores. Pulling one 2-pair cable through a duct, tray or gland plate costs the same labour as pulling a single pair, but delivers twice the circuits.
2. Pair Twisting and Crosstalk
When multiple pairs share a common sheath, the dominant interference risk is no longer external EMI but crosstalk between neighbouring pairs. Each pair is therefore twisted at a different lay length, so that any energy coupled from one pair into another does not accumulate coherently along the run. This differential twist practice is what allows several analogue signals to coexist in one cable without measurable cross-talk errors at typical plant distances.
The overall screen continues to reject interference from external sources — motors, contactors, VFD output cables and power conductors in shared tray.
3. Colour Coding and Termination
With four cores in one jacket, unambiguous identification at both ends matters. Confirm the colour code before ordering and record it on the loop sheet, so that field technicians terminate pair 1 and pair 2 consistently and commissioning does not stall on swapped signals. Where a project uses numbered or banded cores rather than solid colours, note this in the cable schedule.
4. Applications
• Package units and skid-mounted equipment with two or three field instruments
• Pumping stations: run/stop status plus flow or pressure feedback
• Small DCS / PLC marshalling where a limited number of loops share a route
• HVAC and building automation controller wiring
• Analyser shelters and sampling systems with a sample pump signal plus an analyser output
5. Ordering Guidance
The single most important item to confirm is the shielding architecture. A cable described only as "multi-pair shielded" may have an overall screen alone, or may add an individual foil screen around each pair. Individual pair screening is worth specifying when the cable mixes a sensitive millivolt signal (thermocouple, RTD) with a higher-level signal in the same sheath, or when the run passes close to power cabling. Overall screening alone is normally sufficient for two 4-20 mA loops in a standard plant environment.
Also confirm conductor material and whether each pair has its own drain wire — per-pair drain wires make individual screen termination practical without soldering.
